There are many shows over the years that I have enjoyed watching and throwing myself into headfirst. I’ve actually gone as far as getting a tattoo inspired by one such show just because I felt like I connected with it on such a deep, emotional level that I wanted to be able to look at it every day and remind myself of the good(and bad) times I had watching it. But, never have I encountered a show like West World.
From the humble beginnings and introduction of a small town called Stillwater to the dark, mysterious past of the Man in Black and evildoers within the ‘west world’, this show had me on the edge of my seat. Evan Rachel Wood, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, James Marsden, Jeffery Wright, and so many more amazing and talented actors created such a deep and believable narrative (pun intended once you’ve watched the show) that I could not pull my eyes away from my television. The costuming, the writing, the entire image throughout this show hit the nail on the head for dropping you into a world that felt more real than most period pieces. I don’t want to get too deep into the plot but I will say this, every minute spent watching this program is worth it if not only to pass the time, but to dive deep into what it is that makes us who we are, what keeps us from drinking deep from the well of our baser instincts, and what we can become if we make the right choices.
I recommend this to anyone wanting to escape from the everyday television program and explore a world where the possibilities seem endless. I know that after a few weeks of analyzing what the story meant to me, I will most certainly press play once again so that I might enjoy the grit and glamour that is West World. It truly is that damn amazing.
So hop on board. I’ll see you in Stillwater, cowpoke.
