Time to ‘Cash In’

The past year brought a lot of new changes into my life. But, the loudest of all these changes came in the form of me realizing that I did not was to become an educator like my mother and her parents. Instead I wanted to follow a different, crazier path. This path, this new journey, has led me into a new Major in Creative Writing and a double Minor in Marketing/Public Relations. What am I going to do with it? Where am I going to end up in two years once I finally walk across that stage at twenty-seven years old? Who knows? Maybe, I’ll end up working for a business in helping create and design new ways to bring in as many buyers and customers as ever. Maybe I’ll end up working with my good friend and fraternity brother, Gabe Miller, and we’ll create the next big blockbuster film. Maybe I’ll just continue to be happy with the fact that I live a good life, I love writing and my job, and I love the people that I’ve surrounded myself with.

Because that’s what it’s really all about, isn’t it?

I’ve been reading a book for one of my upcoming classes, Why Now Is The Time To Crush It! Cash In On Your Passion by Gary Vaynerchuk. I’ve never been one for actually doing the assigned reading in my classes, but I’m telling you now guys, I haven’t been able to put this book down. Any free time that I’ve gotten I continue to fall deeper and deeper into a pool of respect for this man and his passion and drive to not only succeed for himself, but for everyone that he sees potential in. Everything that he has spoken about in the book so far has hit home with me. Put your family first. Don’t worry about what anyone else thinks about you. Follow YOUR passion, YOUR desires and make them a reality.

Don’t think it’s that easy? This guy grew up from nothing selling baseball cards without knowing anything about them. But you know what he did? He pushed himself and he learned everything that he could and then took that knowledge and turned it around to create one of the most well known wine stores/review channels. And he keeps pushing himself. Like, seriously, he doesn’t quit pushing himself and as I continue reading his book I find that I want that. I’m hungry for that drive. But I feel something changing within me and I can’t help but smile knowing that it’s something amazing.

My writing might suck. It might be shit. Some people out there probably read this and think, “Jesus, why doesn’t he just quit already?” But you know, I’m fine with that. Because it makes me happy and I know that I’m not terrible. Trust me, I’ve read terrible writing before. But anyone out there can feel this way, I promise you can. If you don’t believe me, go check Gary out on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, you name it and I promise you, something will awaken within you. Something that you never thought you had.

I just want to say, thank you Mr. Vaynerchuk, for being someone who believes in everyone, even if we don’t have the same passions or power that you have, you still believe we can achieve our own lot in life. I’m going to finish your book today, that’s my goal, and when I do I’m sure I’ll be just as inspired (if not more) as when I first started it.

Hope everyone out there is having a great Tuesday! Feel free to give the site a follow to keep up to date on my writing or to leave a comment about how you feel towards today’s post.

Be sure to continue checking back as I will continue to write! Next time, I’ll be reviewing the Alice Isn’t Dead podcast from Night Vale Presents.
